What is kVA?
kVA in electrical terms refers to kilovolt-ampere and is the unit used to express apparent power, in practical terms your kVA level is a promise from the network to guarantee the provision of a volume of power to your site. Your kVA is billed per unit so if it is set too high you could be charged thousands for energy you will never use. If your kVA level is set too low you could also be putting your wiring and electrical appliances under extreme pressure.
How do I find out what my kVA allowance is?
Energy Efficiency Audits; we have identified thousands of pounds in savings through the installation of energy efficient products and energy management. Many of our clients are eligible for free Energy Efficiency Audits, your business could be too. You can identify what your kVA allowance is by looking at your electricity invoice.
How do I determine if it is set correctly or not?
As a consultancy and a free service to your business, we would need to request the last 24 months of your monthly maximum kVA demand from your Distribution Network Operator. Once we have your kVA data we will report back to you and be able to chart your maximum demand against your current kVA level.
Efficient Energy is committed to continuing to deliver proactive and quality services to its customers.
Along with the Data Collection services Efficient Energy provides, customers also receive online access to Energy Management portal Smart Efficient Vision (SEV), which gives easy-to-view graphical representations of meter reading details ready for energy management and invoice validation. Allowing you to see how, when and where you are using energy, helping you to understand wastage, identify ongoing efficiency opportunities and allows for future planning and budgeting.

Whilst providing our clients with lower energy costs per kWh as an important first step, we consider that the measurement and reduction of overall energy consumption over the long term to be equally as important. At Efficient Energy we pride ourselves in assisting our clients with a strategy that lowers resource consumption.
We can assist with the implementation of Automatic Meter Reading meters (AMR), which collects Half Hourly Data, then transfers it directly to a central database for billing, analysis and diagnosis. This provides suppliers with Accurate Data on Consumption, which in turn ensures that Actual Usage is billed.
Efficient Energy provides Management Support so that any issues can be brought immediately to the supplier’s attention. These services include Bill Validation, Historical Invoice Auditing, and kVA Analysis.
Energy Efficiency Audits; we have identified for our clients £1000s of savings through the installation of energy efficient products and energy use management. Many or our clients are eligible for a free Energy Efficiency Audits your business could be too.
Aimed at businesses with the enthusiasm for identifying energy cost savings, the Efficient Energy service is an all-encompassing offering, providing clients with a suite of project-managed services. These range from large, complex projects to individual technology installations. Common solutions include:
- LED lighting
- PV (solar panels)
- Biomass
- CHP (Combined Heat and Power)
- VO (Voltage Optimisation) and Voltage Regulators
To complement our solutions, we place a significant emphasis on staff awareness training and embedding a culture of sustainability and energy efficiency with everyone involved.
Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC)
Emissions measuring for the Carbon Reduction Commitment to avoid being overcharged is an important function for many large businesses.
The Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency Scheme (CRC) is an emissions trading scheme designed to improve energy efficiency and reduce the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) emitted in the UK. The CRC applies to all organisations consuming over 6,000 MWh of electricity per year. These organisations will be taxed for the carbon dioxide emissions that are attributable to energy consumption.
They will need to monitor and report all energy use emissions from all sources – electricity, gas and other fuels. An automatic 10% uplift will be applied to consumption figures which are estimated. Providing accurate energy consumption data will allow your business to avoid this unnecessary cost.
How Efficient Energy help?
Calculating your carbon footprint can be a time-consuming process that requires specialist knowledge. We have calculated carbon footprints for businesses and organisations throughout the UK, and assisted in the preparation and delivery of reports to the relevant bodies.
It’s an extra burden that we will happily take from your shoulders. Our Carbon specialists can help you submit accurate consumption data, quickly, easily and efficiently producing the Footprint and Annual Reports which CRC demands.
Data collection is the measurement and automatic retrieval of energy consumption data from installed meters or data loggers on an energy supply on your site.
The peak load (maximum demand capacity) of your business site will determine which Efficient Energy Data Collection service your business will most benefit from.
Half Hourly Data Collection (HH DC)
Recording energy usage data from your meter or data logger at 48 half hourly intervals every day.
As your data collector Efficient Energy (with our partners) is responsible for remotely collecting, validating and compiling your data and providing this to you and your Supplier the next day.
HH DC is typically required for larger business sites with energy demands higher than 100 kW and those which fall into the Half Hourly settlement market.
Non Half Hourly Data Collection (NHH DC)
The required service for smaller business sites with a maximum demand (peak load) typically between 70-100 kW.
Via your industry approved automatic meter reading (AMR) logger or alternative technology, NHH DC services provide and validate your monthly register reading which is passed to your Supplier for accurate billing.
As part of your NHH DC service, 30 minute interval data is also provided as well as register read data, as standard through Smart Efficiency Vision, (SEV) allowing you to analyse your energy usage patterns in more detail.
Both data collection services are accompanied by Efficient Energy’s online energy management tool, Smart Efficiency Vision (SEV)- for easy-to-view graphical representations of your energy data.
Benefits
Government legislation, industry trading and settlement arrangements set out rules requiring businesses to collect data on their energy consumption to optimise the power supply network within the UK – this is known as the Balancing & Settlement Code (BSC).

Water is often taken for granted by business users, however there are many options to the effective managing of this vital commodity making it a key area for savings in any organisation.
The key to water efficiency is reducing waste, we have in-depth knowledge of supply and wastewater disposal, legislation, competition and environmental obligations.
Leaks and incorrect supply systems, complicated and inaccurate drainage systems can severely impact on the bottom line.
A typical project audit where there maybe high consumption;
- Underground water leaks
- Leak detection
- Urinals constantly flushing
- High volume showers, hotels, fitness centers’, leisure centers’
- Inefficient use of water in manufacturing/production processes
- Conserve water where possible
- Faulty/damaged meters
- Incorrect meter reads
- Clients supply feeding other user property in error
- Over flowing storage tanks
- Leaking swimming pools/equipment
We will carry out a comprehensive water audit of all component charges on your bills, which go to make up the total charges. We will also take into account the staffing numbers, water consumption facilities and production processes on site.
In April 2017 the water industry was opened up for competition following the success in Scotland. Efficient Energy is well positioned to be able to offer you alternative suppliers at a lower cost base, saving you time and money in switching suppliers.
